About This Project

Lexi Poindexter was a resident of Greene County and mother of two. Five days after giving birth to her second child, she developed dizziness that progressed to a severe headache while at home. Later that evening, in ER, she suffered a massive brain hemorrhage from which she did not recover. Lexi passed 13 days after delivery of her son at GCGH. Although the exact reason for the brain hemorrhage is unclear, it is known that her blood pressure spiked high in the evening the hemorrhage occurred.

In memory of Lexi, her family’s mission is to improve the outcomes of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy by educating, supporting, engaging the community and supplying the “tool” needed to recognize this crisis before damage occurs. Lexi’s family, friends, and community members continue to raise funds to provide mothers with a Blood Pressure Monitor to take home. Their plea to individuals expecting (and those who have family or friends that are expecting) is to “please have your own blood pressure cuff and take your blood pressure several times per day. Communicate abnormal findings with your Healthcare Provider.”

In partnership with Lexi’s family and Greene County General Hospital Foundation, Greene County General Hospital’s Perinatal Navigator now works with all mothers on properly monitoring blood pressure and observing any warning signs that may appear. In Lexi’s memory, we look forward to working with you and your growing family.
