A team of administrative, rehabilitation , surgical and orthopedic staff from Greene County General Hospital traveled to Gulf Breeze, Florida this week to receive training at the esteemed Andrews Research and Education Foundation where TeamOrtho physician, Dr. John Hammerstein is completing a Sports medicine fellowship. This September, Dr. Hammerstein will begin performing surgical orthopedic and sports medicine services exclusively at Greene County General Hospital and in the TeamOrtho Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center located in the former Ridge Medical Center building in front of Greene County General Hospital at 1043 North 1000 West in Linton. The Andrews Institute welcomed GCGH by coordinating a site visit to discuss orthopedic surgery, rehab services and sports medicine outreach.
Dr. Hammerstein is finishing an orthopedic sports medicine fellowship at the Andrews Research and Education Foundation. After years of practicing as a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Hammerstein began the fellowship to broaden his practice by gaining experience in sports medicine. While there, he is actively participating in team coverage of Division 1 football with the Auburn Tigers and overseeing local high school athletic teams.
The Andrews Institute hosted the GCGH team and coordinated educational sessions, discussions and a campus tour. As part of launching TeamOrtho, GCGH aligned with the Andrews Institute to learn operational techniques, policies, and sports medicine outreach strategies. Educational opportunities such as this site visit will provide TeamOrtho with a foundation of exceptional orthopedic patient care techniques and athletic training strategies. This month TeamOrtho presented athletic training contracts to several local schools.
